Kettle Valley Steam Railway – “The Okanagan’s Heritage Railway”
Celebrating 15 years of preservation and operation – the Kettle Valley Steam Railway offers you the romance of a bygone era along the only remaining section of the Kettle Valley Railway built during 1910 – 1915. Known as the “Kootenay to Coast Connection” – the KVR was integral to the development of the interior’s mineral and fruit industries; it revolutionized passenger travel and created much needed employment in the region for many decades after its construction. Today, this unique 90 minute journey takes you through beautiful rural Summerland and onto the Trout Creek Bridge with a stunning view of Okanagan Lake and canyon below. The sight and sound of the 3716 steam locomotive brings the era alive. Live music, historical commentary and an observation game for kids complete your experience. There are numerous Special Event trains throughout the May to October season. Book your group on a Great Train Robbery & BBQ with the infamous Garnett Valley Gang who thrill passengers with their daring horsemanship and antics both on and off the train; or try the Historic Rails & Trails Wine and BBQ event during the Fall Okanagan Wine Festival. The train runs Saturday to Monday in the months of May, June, September and October while in July/August it operates Thursday to Monday. Prairie Valley Station provides Gift Shop & Concession amenities. All facilities are wheelchair accessible and there is plenty of parking for recreation vehicles and buses. The KVSR is pleased to offer Group Rates & Private Charter options.
