Days 1 & 2 & 3 – Travel to Kelowna and Big White Ski Resort
- Travel to Kelowna and take Highway 33 East and then turn left for Big White Ski Resort (www.bigwhite.com). Nestled in the Monashee Mountain range, Big White is both ‘big’ (2765 acres) and ‘white’ - blessed with 24 feet (750 centimetres) of world famous champagne powder. The variety of terrain is immense with over 130 runs for all abilities, complemented by numerous powder bowls and skiing and boarding in the frozen ‘snow ghost’ trees. The mountain is serviced by one of the largest state-of-the-art lift systems in Canada, including four express quad chairs, an eight-passenger gondola, and the Snow Ghost Express, Canada’s longest six-seat chairlift.
- As the largest totally ski-in, ski-out ski resort in Canada, you can experience the luxury of stepping straight out onto the slopes from our fantastic range of accommodation. There’s something for everyone whether it’s a luxurious self contained vacation home with a private hot tub, a cozy condominium or a welcoming hotel suite. Whatever you’re after, we have the makings for a memorable vacation.
- There are so many activities during the winter at Big White, you’ll want to extend your holiday just to fit them all in. At Happy Valley, you can speed downhill on truck-sized inner tubes, the kids can ride their own snowmobile and Big White’s skating pond is ideal for a classic Canadian game of hockey or a leisurely ice skate. If you are looking for something different, why not view the scenery around Big White’s beautiful village on a thrilling snowmobile ride through the picturesque snow covered trees? Or perhaps you’d prefer to discover the natural wilderness of the mountain on an unforgettable guided snowshoe tour.
- Other winter activities include dog sledding, sleigh rides, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and spas. Open your eyes to the beauty of Big White’s pristine back country with our dog sled tours. This is an experience like no other! Or, join “Tom & Jerry” the four legged friends, for a traditional Canadian Sleigh Ride through the wilderness and winter’s landscape, a true Canadian winter adventure!
- It’s your holiday and you should be relaxing in style. Big White Ski Resort has two great day spas for you to enjoy while taking a break from the slopes.
- Big White’s Main Street is actually a ski run! Hailed as Canada’s largest ski-in ski-out resort village, guests can ski to their doorstep or stroll through the village, shopping and dining in world-class restaurants and pubs. Big White provides everything you will need for a great vacation, all within walking distance to your accommodation.
Day 3 – Big White Ski Resort to Silver Star Mountain Resort (2 hours)
- Spend the morning skiing at Big White Ski Resort.
- Depart for Silver Star Resort by following the Big White Road and Highway 33 back to Kelowna, then take Highway 97 north to Vernon. The resort is located 22 km northeast of Vernon. Spend the afternoon at Silver Star Mountain Resort, (www.skisilverstar.com) lifts close at either 3:30 or 4 pm.
Days 4, 5, & 6 – Silver Star Mountain Resort
- Storybook charm, warm friendly staff, legendary powder, and 2,725 skiable acres. Welcome to Silver Star Mountain Resort! Silver Star’s charming, pedestrian-only village offers convenient ski-in, ski-out access to Silver Star’s hotels, boutique retail shops, restaurants, and cafes. Silver Star’s magical village offers a great selection of hotels across a wide variety of price ranges, award-winning vacation homes, suites, and condos each with their own unique style and warm hospitality. The Victorian-inspired, mid-mountain village provides ski-in, ski-out access from every doorstep.
- Thanks to the Okanagan valley’s unique microclimate, Silver Star receives over 23 feet annually of the lightest and driest snow in the world. Over the next few days, enjoy over 112 runs on two very different mountain faces - the Vance Creek for families and Putnam Creek for the more adventurous.
- With its renowned dry, feather light champagne powder snow, Silver Star is a mountain with many attractions. The mountain’s stunning 3,065 acres (1,240 hectares) are blanketed by 23 feet (700 cm) annually with the world’s best powder. Experience 2,500 vertical feet (760 metres) of descent from the top of the mountain. Comfortable daytime temperatures average -5C, (27F), which is cold enough to keep the snow light and fluffy, yet absolutely perfect for skiing.
- With over a hundred kilometres of cross country trails at the resort and adjacent Sovereign Lakes Nordic Centre, Silver Star’s cross-country trails are truly world class – indeed, many Olympic athletes have trained here. You could spend a week or more at Silver Star without skiing and never run out of things to do! The Tube Town park offers endless family fun. Go on a professionally guided snowmobile or snowshoe tour, take the whole family on a sleigh ride or enjoy a massage at one of the on-site spas. How about ice skating on Brewer’s Pond, or an indoor rock-climbing lesson? You can even snowshoe to the rustic, warm Wild Horseman’s Cabin for a fondue dinner!
- Or for a special treat, consider Sleigh Rides to dinner at the Wild Horesman’s Cabin. This is a wonderful ride for couples, families or groups to the cozy cabin to be treated to a warm, welcoming atmosphere and a delicious meal fit for a king.
- For another unique dining experience, you can climb aboard the twelve passenger snow-cat machine Paradise Express and travel from the village centre to Paradise Camp, a rustic cabin atop Silver Star’s Putnam Creek. The Express treks throughout the mountain under moonlit skies, giving you a true groomer’s perspective. Once at Paradise Camp, you will be greeted by friendly staff along with wonderful aromas emanating from the kitchen. Enjoy fine wines, tables lit by lanterns and a sumptuous a la carte menu offering a variety of fare sure to suit all palates.
