3-Day Sun Peaks Resort Winter Tour

A winter vacation doesn't get any better at this world famous resort!

This tour starts in one world-famous four season destination – Whistler, home of the 2010 Winter Olympics – and ends in another. This remarkable road trip traverses the coastal mountain range, passing glaciers, waterfalls and alpine lakes as you head to the interior of British Columbia. Whether you’re looking for snow, fun or a quiet place to get away from it all, Sun Peaks Resort and intimate village offers the best and widest range of winter activities. As an add on, visit during the third week of January to take in the Okanagan Icewine Festival and the many exciting events during this annual event!

Day 1 – Whistler to Sun Peaks (5 hours)

  • Depart Whistler and follow the sparkling lakes and spectacular glaciers of the Coast Mountain range as seen along the Duffey Lake Road (Highway 97) to Sun Peaks.  The Tyrolean inspired slope side village is both intimate and diverse. You will find everything you want – a variety of mountain-side accommodations, shops, restaurants and activities.  Savour the feeling of being just a little closer to heaven in a classic BC winter resort destination.
  • Arrive and get settled in at the Nancy Greene’s Cahilty Lodge (www.cahiltylodge.com) or at Sun Peaks Lodge (www.sunpeakslodge.com).

Days 2 & 3

  • Three mountains, one village, four seasons - discover the magic at Sun Peaks Resort (www.sunpeaksresort.com)! With 3,486 acres of winter fun, this year-round destination resort is the second-largest area in British Columbia and third largest in Canada. Three mountains rise almost 3,000 vertical feet above a charming ski-in, ski-out village. Nestled in a storybook slope side setting, Sun Peaks Resort offers all of the essentials at your fingertips - hotels, condos, chalets, B&B’s, hostels, restaurants and shops.
  • The hard facts for downhill skiers and boarders are 122 green (20%), blue (65%), and black runs (15%) that can be accessed from the top of every chairlift, allowing everyone to choose their favourite run and meet back at the bottom of the chairlift.  Away from the wet, milder coastal region, the BC Interior is known throughout the world for its light, dry, ‘easy-to-ski’ powder and on average over 2,000 hours of sunshine per year! Director of Skiing at Sun Peaks Resort, Olympic Gold Medalist and Female Athlete of the 20th Century, Nancy Greene, calls Sun Peaks home and is available to ski with resort guests almost every weekend and holidays.
  • For those not inclined to head up the chairlift, there’s so much to see and do as well! Non-skiers (or skiers and boarders who want to take a day off) can explore many other activities and venues around the resort.
  • Try dog-sledding by racing your own team of Alaskan Huskies down the valley trails or you can ride as a passenger. Have a howl!
  • Or, you can go snowshoeing, a traditional Canadian experience that will really get you back to nature. You can rent snowshoes and create your own self directed adventure along 12 kilometers of snow show trails or join a professional guide for a fun and informative afternoon tour through the quiet forest. Perhaps something a little faster like snowmobiling is more your style. Join a tour of the beautiful backcountry surrounding the resort.
  • If you would like to just relax, stroll and see the sites, take in a sleigh ride village tour. Sleigh ride guests are taken on a horse drawn tour through the village and valley next to the golf course. Get the family together and head over to the fabulous Sports Centre equipped with an outdoor heated swimming pool, hot tub, and children’s wading pool. Rent some skates and go for a spin on the full size outdoor skating rink. Go for a rollicking ride at Tube Time, Sun Peaks lift-accessed toboggan hill. With its unique curving lanes, the Tube Time Park is fun for all ages. For something completely different, a Sno-Limo Tour or Cat Trax rides provide an easy way for non-skiers to see the sights and enjoy the views.
  • Sun Peaks Valley is also a wonderful location for Nordic enthusiasts. With 28 kilometres of track set cross country trails and another 12 kilometres of un-groomed backcountry trails, Sun Peaks has a diverse Nordic trail system suitable for every level of skier. The cross country trail network winds through the valley golf course and up Mount Morrisey with many providing a variety of challenges and beautiful vistas of the village.

Day 3

  • Your last day at Sun Peaks is one to catch up on anything still on your wish list to do. To take home a personal memento of your trip, you may want to book some time with a Sun Peaks professional photographer for an action shot or a family portrait with the village as a perfect backdrop. Or for ultimate relaxation, perhaps a visit to Sun Peaks Spa is the way to go. BC registered and certified practitioners will create a variety of rejuvenating treatments featuring massage therapy, aesthetics and a salon to help you feel and look your best. On this trip or your next, remember you can design your own vacation package with a variety of accommodations such as private chalets, condominiums, town homes as well as full service hotels to choose from. You can also customize rentals, tickets, activities and shuttles into your holiday.
  • Departing early in the afternoon, the return trip to your home in Metro Vancouver will take 4½ hours on the Coquihalla Connector.

Special Ice Wine Festival Add-On

  • The Annual Okanagan Icewine Festival held during the third week in January at Sun Peaks Resort is the most unique of all the wine festivals.  Over 25 wineries from the Okanagan valley sample many of their wines and the festival is the only venue for winter tasting under one roof! Spectacular wines and an award winning alpine resort create an unbelievable week of education and recreation. From wine master’s dinners, to educational seminars and a unique progressive tasting, this is a memorable week or weekend in the making.
